Clay persimmons fresh out of the kiln

Remember the square box pattern?   One pattern and only four seams?  Some straight edges turned into curves, v cuts in the corners and wah la!

What thoughts I have of you tonight, Walt Whitman, for I walked
down the sidestreets under the trees with
a headache self-conscious looking at the full moon.
In my hungry fatigue, and shopping for images, I went into the neon
fruit supermarket, dreaming of your enumerations!
What peaches and what penumbras!
Whole families shopping at night! Aisles full of husbands!
Wives in the avocados, babies in the tomatoes!
--and you, García Lorca, what were you doing down by the watermelons?

  1. These are so sensual, I don't have words; I feel a connection to these fruits. At the beginning of Spring I had many persimmons, so many green beauties hanging on my tree, green with promise in their new life. Halfway through the season all were gone, there wasn't a single one left. Secretly I mourned them, I kept them alive in my memory of their fresh greenness, the memory of them waiting to ripen on the tree. Now my memories of those green persimmons have ripened here in your clay fruits.

    1. Oh how disappointing to lose your persimmons! I know I would mourn the lost, too. There are many persimmon trees around here. They are the pointed ones and look like little orange lanterns hanging on the bare branches. Just lovely!

  2. I love your persimmons! They look so delicious! Persimmons are now on sale at supermarkets but I have not yet eaten one. I'll buy some this weekend! I love the colors of your pears too.

    1. Our persimmons haven't come to market, yet. Usually near the end of this month. This year, the persimmons are ripening faster due to our more moderate weather. To get the special ones---chocolate Maru---we travel up to the Sierra foothills and tour the farms. We usually do this in November, but looks like it will be this month!
