All that's left of September's Clay

No matter what the work you are doing, be always ready to drop it. And plan it, so as to be able to leave it.

It's the last day of September already.  Around here it was a very hectic month.  Every day something popped up and changed all our plans.  Things that kept me from the studio.  Long hours waiting, away from my clay.

I covered up the porcelain cups I had thrown earlier in the month, all waiting for handles.  For some it is too late---they will remain without handles---but not without hope. Porcelain takes care and a bit of patience.  It makes you slow down and take note.  It changes the rhythm, the timing of the studio.  It is nearly as palpable as the season's changing light. Autumn is here now.  It did not wait for me to catch up with summer's bright plans. I try to keep to a schedule, but the planet has its own to keep.

  1. No matter how hard I try I can't seem to keep to a schedule, hopefully once we get our remodeling projects done I can get back into the groove.

  2. Yes, it is hard sometimes especially when there are deadlines.

  3. Indeed, the best laid plans.....

Porcelain is a capricious mistress. She has her own agenda, and plays nice only with those she chooses, not being one to be told what to do.
She and I don't get on very well, I'm afraid.
But, I believe you, Charlene, are among those who she will bow to. For she knows you can find a clay's heart, and capture it's essence in the very best way.

Congratulations on the sale of Embrace :)

    1. I can get into a few disagreements with porcelain, too ;) It is lovely to carve and takes on colors brilliantly thus it entices. Hope your kiln gods are smiling!

  4. First - your new blog (Google) looks great! And yes, where did summer go - so quickly. We went to the coast for a week to say goodbye to warm and came back to a 36 degree mountain morning.
Congrats on the sale of Embrace - she is lovely. And I think it takes someone very brave to work with porcelain!

    1. Thanks, Judy. How lovely to see the coast! We have had very hot weather (for us.) Even San Francisco was 90 degrees! No wind, too. As to working in porcelain--I am in awe of those master potters who exclusively work in porcelain.
